I am a photographer with old-fashioned views. I still believe that a photograph is capturing an image of a moment in time. I think the manipulation of images is a shame, which is ruining the art of photography. I understand that product photography requires photo stacking, as the whole of the product needs to be pin sharp. For nature, landscape or urban photography I find it totally unnecessary. The new cameras on the market with 45MP or more are overkill, unless you need to produce a print of enormous proportions. I think the camera manufacturers are to blame in pushing the idea that, the more mega pixels the better.
Some of the most famous images are grainy and not all in focus, which makes my point, that it’s the image that counts not how sharp it is. There are many Photographers in YouTube that haven’t understood this concept, who have fallen foul of the camera manufacturers hype of “the more mega pixels the better”. Instagram is another platform that is slowly undermining the art of photography, as a lot of images are manipulated or just dreamed up from AI software. This is why I do not post my images on social media.
